Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Movie News Bits

Here are bits & pieces news for the most-awaited movie from 20th Century Fox, Ice Age 3:  Dawn of the Dinosaurs.  Let's start with well-loved Ellie the Mammoth, who was voiced-over by no other than Queen Latifah.  PR News Wire reports from Los Angeles:
"Hip-hop's first lady, Queen Latifah, is adding a touch of class to the post-festivities of the BET AWARDS '09 by hosting the My Black Is Beautiful Post Show at the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday, June 28 at 11:00 PM.  Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe and SAG-winning actress, Grammy Award winning-singer and Hip Hop pioneer Queen Latifah has wowed us since her early days of rapping. The world-renowned Cover Girl cosmetics spokeswoman is set to release her highly anticipated new album titled "Persona" which includes her recent single "Cue the Rain" on July 7. Queen Latifah will also star in 20th Century Fox's "Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," due in theatres on July 1."
And now, news from Alberta, Canada.  Movie House grows to five screens.  Hal Wolf, co-owner of the Cochrane Movie House expands the theater from two screens to five to accomodate more box-office movies.  Along this expansion is the upgrade to play 3-D movies.  Cochrane Times reports:
"He [Hal Wolf] now believes he will be giving Cochrane residents more reasons to stay local, even if Cochrane will be “over-screened.” Wolf said the theatre industry has a general rule that one movie screen is adequate for about 10,000 people, so he will have more screens than may be necessary, but he is confident that there is a need in Cochrane. Once completed, the theatre will double its current seating plan to approximately 300.
As part of the expansion, Wolf is also retrofitting one of his current theatres to play 3-D movies, the first of which will be Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which will be released in July.
Wolf said more screens would allow him to play additional box-office movies, as well as playing different movies and try additional promotions that he was unable to do in the past."
So there you go...  three more weeks and the sub-zero heroes will rock the cinemas again.  But before I go, better view the movie synopsis and movie trailers A & trailer B for a head on!

How About Licking Sid of Ice Age 3 this Summer?

By Voxy News Engine

An eminently lickable banana, chocolate and vanilla ice cream in the shape of Sid, the much-loved sloth from the 20th Century Fox Ice Age movie series is now on sale in ice cream freezers around New Zealand, taking Tip Top back to its Hollywood years.
The ice cream comeback delivers a drum-roll for Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, the third movie in the Ice Age series, which will screen in cinemas throughout New Zealand from 3rd July.
The R2D2 was New Zealand's biggest ice cream block-buster in 1978, followed by Pink Panther in 1986, and Batman in 1992.
A long-serving Tip Top employee remembers the Caves Dairy in Sumner, Christchurch, selling about a thousand R2D2 ice creams in the first week, and in his experience no other ice cream has come close. In 1978, the R2D2 lemonade shell and jelly tip ice cream melted on Kiwi fingers while the heroic little robot melted hearts on screens around the world.
The Flintstones, Bionic Man, Darth Vader, Garfield and the Incredible Hulk are also among a long line-up of iconic screen characters who caused box office and television mayhem and unprecedented excitement on Tip Top wrappers in the 80s and 90s.
In the same era, Rachel Hunter, Cliff Curtis and Dominic Bowden started out as screen stars in Tip Top television commercials before launching Hollywood careers.
The licensed partnership between 20th Century Fox and Tip Top gives the New Zealand ice cream maker exclusive use of the new movie's name for ice cream products in New Zealand.
In the new movie, Sid gets into trouble when he creates his own make-shift family by hijacking dinosaur eggs. Set to rescue the hapless Sid from Momma Dinosaur, the gang ventures into a mysterious world where they meet a new friend - a one-eyed, dino-hunting weasel called Buck. Source: www.iceage3.co.nz
The director of the movie is Carlos Saldanha and the actor whose voice has endeared children to Sid since he debuted in the first Ice Age movie, is John Leguizamo.
During the company's 14-year absence from licensed partnerships with big movie titles, Tip Top focused on building its own ice cream repertoire.
Goody Goody Gum Drops on a stick is the most recent of the company's world-beating inventions with 1.6 million ice creams, juiced up with almost 10 million gum drops, selling this summer. The story of the romance between 'Goody' and 'Stick' has put the television commercial at 8th spot among New Zealand's favourite ads this summer. (TNS poll of 1000 New Zealanders).
Tip Top Marketing Manager Trish Whitwell says the magic of the characters and stories in movies is never far away from the magic of ice creams. She hopes Sid will be as popular as R2D2, and that the new partnership with 20th Century Fox will mark the dawn of a new ice cream era.
Let's see if our much-loved Sid, the sloth, can rock the Tip Top Ice Cream sales the way he done it with Ice Age movies.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs - A Must-see on Your Summer Calendar

It's this time of year again when studios release an onslaught of big-budget releases.  I just can't believe that there are so many sequels.  Yet it appears that Hollywood is making sure everyone has something to see this season.

One of the sequels that will surely rock the cinemas is - Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs -- Ray Romano, Denis Leary and John Leguizamo once again put on their goofy voices to play animals who try to keep themselves from getting extinct in another installment of the prehistoric, computer-animated film series.

It's just a matter of time that we will soon find out if this one will outrun the two previous sequels.  but that is just the good thing about it,  since the previous sequels already drew fans - this third will definitely have followers.  but then, they will also need to sustain if not surpass those previous sequels to keep the fire burning.

Along side with X-men, Star Trek, Harry Potter among others...   family entertainment will be lotz of fun!

3-D Glasses for Ice Age 3: Whose Cost Should It Be?

Biz balks at cost of 3-D glasses
Studios unwilling to take on the cost themselves
By DAVID S. COHEN

For a biz so focused on the booming potential of digital 3-D, Hollywood's studios -- and the exhibs -- are looking decidedly myopic.

While pics like "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "Monsters vs. Aliens" created a big B.O. splash for the emerging form, behind the scenes, the economics of 3-D eyewear have become something of a free-for-all, with distribs looking to get out of subsidizing the disposable glasses and exhibs unprepared -- and unwilling -- to take on the cost themselves.

Fox, whose first 3-D release, "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," bows in July, is the first distrib to balk at paying for disposable 3-D glasses.

But it isn't alone in wanting to get out of the glasses biz: With 3-D attendance booming and disposable specs costing about 75¢ per pair, distribs and exhibs are haggling over millions of dollars in costs.

"The economics of showing 3-D movies have been largely subsidized by the film distributors for the theaters that use disposable glasses," says John Carey, VP of worldwide sales for Dolby, which offers reusable glasses and so doesn't benefit from the subsidies.

Competitors Real D, which accounts for some 90% of the American market, and Korea-based MasterImage are the ones caught in the middle.

Some in the 3-D biz have long predicted that distribs would stop paying for disposable glasses -- eventually -- but it's clear that most exhibs didn't expect to pay for glasses anytime soon, if ever.

Now, if the pushback from Fox and other studios takes hold, they're looking at having to pay millions upfront for the 3-D specs, to store them and to manage the inventory. And they're not happy about it.

Regal Cinemas responded to Fox's stance by threatening to show "Ice Age 3" only in 2-D unless Fox went back to the old business model. But that's probably little more than a bluff, as Fox holds a trump card: the year's most anticipated 3-D title, James Cameron's "Avatar," slated for December.
More than one option

      Director, Matte Painter, Camera

      Grip, Dolly Grip

      Choreographer

Fox is resisting a business model invented mostly by Disney when 3-D pics were rare and the Mouse wanted to seed the market. Distribs bought the glasses and shipped them to theaters, sparing exhibs almost all inventory and administrative costs. After a pic closed, the exhib and distrib would square up over how many glasses were used and how many were left over.

Now, with 3-D movies coming from all studios about three weeks apart, the accounting is more complicated. Each studio strikes its own deals covering the amount and terms of subsidies on 3-D glasses, all under strict nondisclosure agreements. Even Disney has tweaked the model over time.

One compromise would be for theaters to charge for disposable glasses, then discount tickets for customers who bring in their own.

But that could hurt Real D. Some of the company's royalty deals are based on a cut of the premium on 3-D tickets. In those deals, if the 3-D upcharge shrinks, so does Real D's cut.

Dolby's Carey says he asked distribs to offer the same subsidy on reusable glasses for Dolby-equipped theaters but was told that distribs don't want to enter a new arrangement because they're trying to get out of the one they're already in.

Simon Pegg - New Voice in Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

Simon Pegg in Ice Age 3
Simon Pegg to voice Buck in Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

Simon Pegg has joined the cast of the next Ice Age movie, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

Pegg will voice the latest addition to the franchise - Buck, a larger than life, swashbuckling one eyed weasel who helps Manny and the group navigate the world of the dinosaurs. Buck used to live above ground but accidentally fell into the mysterious land beneath the Ice Age where he had a terrifying encounter with an albino Baryonyx dinosaur named Rudy. In the fight, Buck lost an eye but took Rudy's tooth, which he now carries with him. Since that moment, like Moby Dick's Captain Ahab, Buck has lived on his own and has devoted his life to seeking his revenge on Rudy.

Simon Pegg said of his latest role; "It's been a blast bringing Buck to life. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two films, so it was a real treat to become part of the Ice Age family in , Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs What's more I get to be in 3D!"

He's also known for his starring roles in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Run, Fatboy, Run, and for the comedy series Spaced. Much of his major work has been in collaboration with some combination of Nick Frost, Jessica Hynes, Dylan Moran and Edgar Wright. Pegg has a close friendship with American actor David Schwimmer. The two have worked together in Band of Brothers, Big Nothing and Run, Fat Boy, Run. His likeness was also used for the character of Wee Hughie in the comic book series The Boys; while this was done without Pegg's permission, he quickly became a fan of the title, and even wrote the introduction to the first bound volume.  You will also see him as Scotty in upcoming "Star trek".  other projects that will soon hit the silverscreen are "The Adventures of Tintin" and "Paul".

Ice Age 3 & Harry Potter 6 - 2009 Summer Sizzlers Movies

TURN UP THE HEAT
A summer of blockbusters coming soon to a theater near you

Robots and dinosaurs. Wizards and aliens. Superheroes and starships.

It must be the summer movie season.  Time for the kids to stay up late & watch these movies.

This year’s run of potential box-office blockbusters kicks off May 1 with a familiar face, that of the lovable, not-so-humble, and quite deadly Wolverine. The slice-and-dice hero with the retractable adamantium claws is starring in his own movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with only a few familiar names from his X-Men days along for the ride.

A week later and the theaters should be packed again with the highly anticipated Star Trek reboot from J.J. Abrams, another origin story, in this instance a look back at how Capt. James T. Kirk, science officer Spock, Dr. Leonard McCoy, and the rest of the Enterprise crew met and learned to save Earth. Repeatedly.

But movie-goers will hardly be able to catch their collective breaths from the Star Trek hoopla, as Angels & Demons, the prequel to The Da Vinci Code, opens May 15, closely followed by Terminator Salvation May 21, and the next day with Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.

And on it goes through most of the summer, with release dates of tent-pole movies squeezed tightly together by studios desperate for a lion’s share of box-office meat.

Other mark-it-on-your-calendar films include Pixar’s Up, Will Ferrell in a big-screen adaptation of the ’70s Saturday morning fave Land of the Lost, a new Ice Age movie, the Tranformers sequel, and Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince, a holdover from November.

So is it big-release overload for audiences?

Perhaps. But it also means considerably more choices in the multiplex.  So you'll going to think - who will be the blockbusters among these then?

So, to help you get ready for the summer movie onslaught, here’s a quick rundown of the big films and maybe a few smaller films you don’t want to overlook. As always, release dates are subject to change.

May 1

X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

For those who didn’t watch the leaked version of the movie available online in early April, this pre-X-men tale explores Wolverine’s back story, and pits mutants against forces that wish to destroy them. Hugh Jackman returns as the titular hero.

Battle for Terra: Adrift on an aging spaceship, the last remnants of humanity attack the peaceful inhabitants of the planet Terra for control of the world in this animated feature. But an unlikely friendship between a Terran (voice of Evan Rachel Wood) and a human (Luke Wilson) may prove peace is a better alternative for both species.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past: Charles Dickens meets romantic comedy in this tale of a misbehaving bachelor (Matthew McConaughey) who is visited by ghosts of three former girlfriends in an attempt to uncover what made him such a cad. Also stars Jennifer Garner.

May 8

Star Trek:

Captain Kirk and the crew of the original Enterprise return, only in younger guises, to take on a time-travelling Romulan (Eric Bana) from the future bent on disrupting the past. Starring Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, and Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy. Directed by J.J. Abrams.

May 15

Angels & Demons:

Tom Hanks is back as code breaker Robert Langdon in the best-selling prequel to Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, this time investigating an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati and its threat to the Vatican. Ron Howard also returns to direct.

May 21

Terminator Salvation:

James Cameron’s sci-fi franchise lives on without its creator, as director McG picks up the tale now set in 2018 post-apocalyptic Earth as John Conner (Christian Bale) tries to save mankind from robot annihilation.

May 22

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian:

Different museum, same antics, as famous figures from history come to life, much to the chagrin of Larry Daley (Ben Stiller). Owen Wilson and Robin Williams return , and new characters include Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams), and a villainous Egyptian pharaoh (Hank Azaria).

The Girlfriend Experience: Steven Soderbergh directs this drama set in the weeks leading up to the 2008 presidential election about a high-end call girl, Chelsea (adult film star Sasha Grey in her mainstream film debut), who offers more than sex to her clients: companionship and conversation.

May 29

Up:

Pixar’s latest is a comedy-adventure about a 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen (Ed Asner) who fulfils a lifelong wish of journeying to South America by attaching thousands of balloons to his house. Carl’s dream trip becomes a nightmare, however, when he finds an 8-year-old stowaway named Russell.

Drag me to Hell: Spider-Man director Sam Raimi returns to his horror film roots with this tale of a young woman’s attempt at breaking a powerful curse that threatens to damn her soul to hell.

June 5

Land of the Lost:

Marshall (Will Ferrell), Will (Danny McBride), and Holly (Anna Friel) become trapped in a space-time vortex filled with dinosaurs, the reptilian Sleestak, and the ape-like Pakuni in this big-budget comedy based on the 1970s Sid and Marty Krofft Saturday morning series.

The Hangover: A wild bachelor party in Las Vegas turns horribly wrong as three groomsmen wake up to find their hotel room in shambles and the groom missing. The comedy stars Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms, and is directed by Todd Phillips (Old School).

Away We Go: Sam Mendes directs John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph as an expectant couple traveling the country, encountering misadventures, relatives, and old friends along the way, as they search for a place to raise their family.

June 12

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3: John Travolta is a criminal mastermind who hijacks a subway train and threatens to execute its passengers unless he’s paid a large ransom in one hour. Denzel Washington is the New York City subway dispatcher who tries to stop him. Tony Scott directs this remake of the 1974 suspense thriller.

Imagine That: Eddie Murphy stars in a family comedy as a successful financial executive whose career takes a turn for the worse — until he discovers the answers to his problems may be found in his daughter’s imaginary world.

June 19

The Proposal: A romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock as a publishing executive who faces deportation to Canada. In desperation, she claims she is engaged to her harried assistant, Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), whom she has tormented for years, and who agrees to her scheme, only with some conditions of his own.

Year One: Two lazy hunter-gatherers (Jack Black, Michael Cera) are banished from their primitive village, and set off on an epic journey through the ancient world. Harold Ramis co-wrote and directs this comedy.

Whatever Works: Larry David stars in Woody Allen’s latest film as a grumpy Greenwich Village resident who becomes entangled with a young runaway girl (Evan Rachel Wood) from Mississippi and her parents. Also featuring Patricia Clarkson, and Ed Begley, Jr.

June 24

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: The evil Decepticons are at it again in their war against the Autobots, with human Shia LaBeouf back to help stop them, and director Michael Bay again behind the camera.

June 26

My Sister’s Keeper: Cameron Diaz, Jason Patric, and Alec Baldwin star in this drama held over from December about the choices parents make to save their dying young daughter.

July 1

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Mammals and dinosaurs mingle — forget science, this is animation — in the third installment in the popular Ice Age franchise. Series fans will be happy to know Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Queen Latifah are back to lend their voices.

Public Enemies: Michael Mann directs an all-star cast including Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Billy Crudup, Stephen Dorff, and Giovanni Ribisi in the true story of the FBI’s battles with Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger. Based on the book by Bryan Burrough.

July 10

Bruno: Sacha Baron Cohen brings his funny and often cringe-worthy comedy technique to theaters again, not as Borat, but as Bruno, a flamboyant Austrian fashionista who also appeared on the Da Ali G Show.

I Love You, Beth Cooper: A nerdy valedictorian proclaims his love for the prettiest and most popular girl in school during his graduation speech. That night, she unexpectedly shows up at his door and takes him out for an evening he’ll never forget. Chris Columbus directs. Hayden Panettiere and Paul Rust star. Based on the novel by Larry Doyle.

July 15

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: The gang is back for the penultimate movie in the Harry Potter saga. This time Harry is on a quest to learn the identity of the Half-Blood Prince, even as evil Lord Voldemort prepares to wage war against his fellow wizards. David Yates returns as director.

July 24

The Ugly Truth: Katherine Heigl is a romantically challenged morning show producer, and Gerard Butler is a hard-core TV personality who shares with her the ugly truth of gender relations in this romantic comedy.

G-Force: A live-action comedy-adventure about a covert government program that trains guinea pigs and other animals to be high-tech spies. Featuring the voices of Nicolas Cage, Jon Favreau, Penelope Cruz, Steve Buscemi, and Tracy Morgan.

July 31

Funny People: Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen star in this Judd Apatow comedy about a successful stand-up comic (Sandler) with a terminal disease who takes a struggling comedian (Rogen) under his wing. Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman, and RZA round out the cast.

Now that you have seen it all until July 31, better keep posted for the updates up to August.

3-D cardboard glasses for Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs movie

The Next Ice Age in 3-D..Maybe Not!
Written by: Ross Becker

It will always be an added thrill if we will use the 3-D cardboard glasses when watching Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. But If I'm going to pay extra for that as Ross Becker guessed on his report, I'll better think again.
The largest theater chain in the country is in a classic battle with a major movie studio over those $1 cardboard 3-D glasses. When the new "Ice Age-Dawn of the Dinosaurs" movie opens in July, either you or the theater may have to pay for the glasses. Up until now, the movie studio has provided millions of those flimsy eyeglasses to theaters just to make sure the theaters agreed to show the movie. Now that may be ending.

The studios are telling the theater owners they are on their own.

The battle is on. Who will pay? In the end, you will pay when you buy a ticket. I guess in a way, you already are.

I wish I had saved those cardboard glasses I got at the movies when I was a kid. They might be worth something. It looks like when we go to the snack bar for overpriced popcorn and soda or Raisinettes, we will also have to lay down an extra buck for some 3-D glasses. Just don't use them to drive home.

Ice Age 3 Movie, Ellie the Woolly Mammoth and Queen Latifah

Ellie the Woolly Mammoth once thought she was a possum, which is almost excusable considering that she was raised by them! She is one of the newest members of the Sub Zero Heroes in Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. Luckily it's not hard to get used to her new life, especially considering she has her new mate Manny guiding her all the way. She lives with Manny, her "brothers" Crash and Eddie, and her new pals Sid and Diego. She's been a bit excited lately however, considering the fact that she is now pregnant in Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs!

This July, Ice Age 3:  Dawn of the Dinosaurs is one of the newest movie releases that forecast to be one that will rock the movie theaters worldwide.  See Ellie being pregnant, taking care of her "brothers" and dealing with Manny's anxiety, she's got her trunk full. Luckily her active and fun-loving spirit keeps her on her toes!

By the way, lovable Ellie was voiced over by no other than Queen Latifah. This lady who's also known as the Queen of Rap, won the "Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie" at 2007 Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards for her first stint in voicing Ellie at Ice Age 2: The Meltdown.

Ice Age 3: The Dawn of the Dinosaurs Movie Official Poster

Ice Age 3 Official Poster
The first official movie poster of Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs has been shown at convention for the movie industry called "Showest". Thanks to Worstpreviews we may see this Ice Age 3 poster in quite good quality (not hi-def because it's actually a photo of the poster):

As one of the new movies that will be released this summer (July 2009), many brows were raised and commented due to its title.  Of course, anybody who knew their history will definitely asked, "how could dinosaurs and ice age mammals meet when the former were long extinct before the latter?"
And that's why you have to watch the official Ice Age 3:  Dawn of the Dinosaur movie trailer, click here...
Hmmm...  not bad right?  So see you on the nearest movie theater near you this July!
